My work is inspired by nature, Italian frescoes, old Portuguese tiles, Delft pottery, and my garden. I photograph flowers and plants that I grow in my garden, trees, and metal washers I find on my travels. I manipulate these images and print them to plaster on wood. Because of the nature of the process every piece is different. Often I print many digital images on the same work, as with the imagined forests, each tree is from a separate modified photograph. I hand paint some pieces, stain others, I scratch and sand and gouge them and then paint and stain them some more. Sometimes twenty layers. Usually I wrap them in 22K gold or silver leaf . I use old shellacs and varnishes as glazes. My intent is to evoke shadows, ghosts or fossils of moments in nature.
